Rules & Alerts

Defining rules in a form allows for conditional

  • Display selected project items (Sections, Items, Group Item rows, Choices within a Choice Item)
  • Display a message and stop progress
  • Skip to the default end page
  • Skip to an alternate end page
  • Send an email when a form is completed

Select the Rules & Alerts tab to add rules. A rule is a logical expression that is created from one or more conditions.

Skipping to the End Page

Create a rule to skip to the end of the survey if the respondent answers "No" to "Event Organization" question.

  • Click Add Rule > Skip to default end page to add a new rule definition.
  • Set the name to "Skip-To-End"
  • Set the description to "Skip to the end of the survey if the respondent answers "No" to "Event Organization" item". The description field is for information purposes only.
  • Select the "Event Organization" item, Equal To and "No" from the dropdowns under Condition(s)
  • Click Save to add the rule

Skip Rule

Skipping Entire Sections/Input Items

Create a rule to display the "Contact Info" and the "Verify Contact Info" group items only if the respondents answers the "Contact" question.

  • Click Add Rule > Show sections/items/choices to add a new rule definition.
  • Set the name to "Answered-Contact"
  • Set the description to "Show group items only if Contact question is answered"
  • Select the "Contact" item and Answered from the dropdowns under Condition(s)
  • Select "Contact Details" and "Confirm Contact Info" from the tree under Action: Show selected project items
  • Click Save to add the rule

Skipping Specific Group Item Rows

Create a rule called "Show-Email" to display the email related rows in the "Contact Info" and the "Verify Contact Info" group item rows only if the respondents selects the choice "Have someone from sales contact me by email".

  • Click Add Rule > Show sections/items/choices to add a new rule definition.
  • Set the name to "Show-Email"
  • Set the description to "Show email rows only if contact by email is selected"
  • Select the "Contact" item, Equal To and "Have someone from sales contact me" from the dropdowns under Condition(s)
  • Select "Contact Info > Email" and "Verify Contact Info > Verify Email" from the tree under Action: Show selected project items
  • Click Save to add the rule

Email Rule

Create a rule called "Show-Address" to display the address related rows in the "Contact Info" and the "Verify Contact Info" group item rows only if the respondents selects the choice "Send me your brochures by mail".

  • Click Add Rule > Show sections/items/choices to add a new rule definition.
  • Set the name to "Show-Address"
  • Set the description to "Show address rows only if contact by mail is selected"
  • Select the "Contact" item, Equal To and "Send me your brochures by mail" from the dropdowns under Condition(s)
  • Select "Contact Info > Address" and "Verify Contact Info > Verify Address" from the tree under Action: Show selected project items
  • Click Save to add the rule

Address Rule

Create a rule called "Show-Phone" to display the phone related rows in the "Contact Info" and the "Verify Contact Info" group item rows only if the respondents selects the choice "Have someone from sales contact me by phone".

  • Click Add Rule > Show sections/items/choices to add a new rule definition.
  • Set the name to "Show-Phone"
  • Set the description to "Show phone rows only if contact by phone is selected"
  • Select the "Contact" item, Equal To and "Have someone from sales contact me" from the dropdowns under Condition(s)
  • Select "Contact Info > Phone" and "Verify Contact Info > Verify Phone" from the tree under Action: Show selected project items
  • Click Save to add the rule

Preview

You can now preview/launch the survey and check the impact of the conditional rules that we have added to the form. To launch the survey, you can get the URL by clicking the Show project URL button.
